I am a fully qualified and UKCP registered psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience working in the NHS and in private practice.

As an integrative psychotherapist, my approach is to bring the understanding of developmental history and potential for existential awakening together with the realization of the integrity of our embodied core being . The Core Process approach, as developed by the founders of the Karuna Institute in Devon, is a dynamic exploration of human qualities as asserted in Buddhist psychology.

Therapy is a way of exploring the possibilities of how we can heal from wounds of the past. Talking therapies can also help with understanding and clarifying the experiences of relationships with self and other. Issues arising from these relationships sometimes bring about feelings of unsatisfactoriness, resentment and helplessness. We cannot change the past but we can alter our experience of the past.

Change in therapy comes from meeting ourselves and in being met by another. This is a gentle process of discovery, revelation and acceptance where the inner relationship with self and being becomes more coherent through an embodied resonance of the therapeutic holding. This form of therapeutic change is different for every individual who embarks on this process. This continues to pique my interest as I work and study the intricacies and complexities of the dynamic form of the therapeutic relationship.

My first degrees were in Psychology and Dramatherapy. I started to practise as a therapist after gaining the M.A. in Mindfulness-based (Core Process) Psychotherapy. I completed my Doctor of Clinical Practice (Research) at the University of Exeter. My research thesis in the study of embodied experiences of therapeutic change helped hone in on contemplative practices in acknowledging change. Phenomenology, Buddhist philosophy, mindfulness practices and psychoanalytic concepts were employed to map out the corporeal experience of such critical moments of therapeutic change. Essentially it is a study of how we make sense and meaning of our experiences by integrating similarities and differences that arise from relationships between our inner and outer embodied senses.

I am also a qualified clinical supervisor for accredited therapists and psychotherapy trainees. Supervision is a way of deepening and understanding the use of contemplative practices in embodied therapeutic relationships. This is also a collaborative process in understanding the multi-layered therapeutic process.
