Member Profile
My name is Patrick Renner.
I’m a US Midwest-born British citizen, native English speaker, living in Berlin. I work comfortable both in English and in German.
Having originally come to the profession of psychotherapy from a very left brain–oriented IT background, I’ve always balanced this out with a passion for diversity in culture, language and connecting. In my personal history there has been early childhood trauma, LGBTQIA+, international and intercultural immigration, neurodivergence, and social-economic challenges.
These life experiences, how I’ve engaged them in my own therapy, and the mix of psychodynamic, humanistic, and integrative psychotherapy training I’ve had, have all conditioned a very compassionate way of working with and connecting to suffering of all kinds in my practice.
To authentically “be” in the world requires that awareness also be brought to the social systems we live in that nurture or inhibit the different identities we hold in life. How we relate to ourselves, our families, and the world in terms of ableness, gender and gender identity, neurodiversity, race, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and expression, as well as many other kinds of ‘otherness’, often presents very specific challenges. We’ll make compassionate space for these aspects as we work ever closer toward a life of authenticity.
Supervision
My approach to supervision is grounded in a Mindfulness-in-Relation framework, creating a reflective and collaborative space that supports awareness, curiosity, and professional growth. Through attentive presence to mind, body, emotion, and felt sense, we explore clinical work alongside the therapist’s own internal process, patterns, and relational responses.
Supervision becomes a space to reflect on therapeutic presence, ethical complexity, and the evolving professional identity of the therapist. Together, we examine uncertainty, resonance, challenge, and possibility, supporting the development of clarity, resilience, and an authentic clinical stance.
I hold supervision within a socially and culturally aware lens, attending to how power, identity, and systemic factors shape both clinical encounters and professional life. This includes compassionate exploration of difference and lived experience — such as gender and gender identity, neurodiversity, race, ableness, socio-economic context, and sexuality — as integral aspects of reflective practice.
My intention is to offer a thoughtful, supportive, and gently challenging supervisory relationship that nurtures confidence, ethical sensitivity, and depth of clinical work.
